Fancy Footwork

Back in 1988 when I was a junior in high school I had the idea to show the countdown to Christmas on my actual body. It started with a sign on my chest saying 24 days left and then moved around from earrings to hair bows and even my shoes by the time we got into the single digits. The yearbook even featured my creativity. (See photo below)

I wouldn’t say I am the craftiest person that ever lived but I have definitely enjoyed embellishing things since an early age.

Recently I saw an add for flip flops with these adorable bows and thought “Hey I could make those and so can anyone else!”

I started with sheer ribbon and wound it around my fingers to get the number of loops I wanted, then tied the bow off in the center. I used the tail ends of the bow to tie it on the flip flop. You can put it on the middle or the side!

I tried this out with a few colors and each turned out so cute!

After trying the ribbon technique I realized I had some left over swatches of kente cloth and folded them like an accordion then tied them with black string to the flip flop on the sides.

These bows would be even cuter on a little girls flip flop and would be a great idea for pool parties, family reunions and birthday parties!

Try it out!
